After dust releases in the past couple of years, there’s not much trust in the local community for Irish Cement – and we don’t have confidence that the meagre fines imposed for the breaches will have any impact. That’s pocket change compared to their profits. So, there’s little faith that their planned incinerator won’t have an impact on the local environment and community.

I oppose the incinerator, both because of potential impacts, and because incineration encourages waste, rather than what we need to do, which is reduce it. I’ll use my scientific expertise to evaluate the plans and give you the facts; and whether the incinerator goes ahead or not, I’ll monitor the air quality in the area and keep you updated. I won’t scaremonger: I will provide the science.
